I removed and installed it the printer and software several times, even going to far as to change HPTcpMon. From there, I was able to make another go at the install and succeeded. I had also compared the registry key to another computer I had installed the printer to on the same day. Mahalo, Charlie. Bonjour crashed a lot before this happened. Disabled Bonjour now to see if that works.

I have done everything that previous posts have mention, except for changing the default data type to RAW, and bypassing the spooler by printing directly to the printer. Once I reinstalled the printer, I made these changes. Beaumont for the idea! Stopped the print spooler, went to the spool folder see above , deleted the bad job.
Went back to Printers and Faxes, uninstalled the driver from the print server. Come for the solution, stay for everything else. Welcome to our community! I think I have read every thread on here with this issue, many only apparently remotely connected such as "Print spooler not working" and "Remote procedure call failed" which in my case appeared to combine to prevent "Add Printer" starting. Anyway, the solution came from reviewing all the Event logs for errors and, in "Applications", finding one that began Faulting application name: spoolsv.
